Solid Gold

I finally hit Gold league in all of the available leagues. I've been Gold in 1v1 for a while, see last post, I have been Platinum in 4v4 since I didn't finish the placement games as soon as I got the game (I was placed in Bronze in all the leagues that I finished placement for).

Getting to Gold in 2v2 was surprisingly hard, the people aren't really all that great, but you have to deal with your teammates more than the opponents sometimes.
There are people who just want to rush every game (a lot), there are people who don't communicate at all.... ever. Then there are people who just don't give a shit if you're getting killed.... they won't help you, they might even make fun of you for being such a noob that you can't defend an attack from 2 people. There are also people who will just leave the game even before there is a reason to, like their cheese failed and they just leave before the enemy even thinks about counter attacks, or they just leave at the first sign of an attack.

So after overcoming that obstacle, which isn't all that easy, I decided to play some 3v3s, in which much of the same happens. In one game we got cannon rushed while cannon rushing (actually that happened more than once) and one of the teammates just got killed.
I'm not even really sure how to say this, but dealing with those types of cannon rushes is just so easy it's ridiculous. They came and put a pylon in the back of the base, pretty much the farthest point from the minerals. Almost every unit you have has nearly the same range of a cannon, so you could just stand a few units (hell one if you don't have a lot) just out of range of the cannon and it's just pretty much stopped. If the probe comes out to make another cannon or pylon you just kill it. If he manages to put down another pylon or cannon you just kill it. Losing a shitload of units to such a cannon rush is like running into a Lamp post in the middle of the day. You know how they're there, you know how to avoid them, all you have to do is not run right into them. So said player ends up leaving the game (he was protoss.... so making a forge and 1 cannon would have been enough....) and the other guy is like "don't risk a marine, purple" (I was purple obviously), and eventually he attacks me and does quite a bit of damage, which leads me to lose the game as soon as the opponents attacked me as well. That kinda thing obviously doesn't happen a whole lot, but it does happen.

So I finally managed to get into Gold in 3v3s as well, after playing Master league opponents, mostly Platinum League opponents and obviously shitloads of Golds.

Here is where I really had an idea, though. Some guy on Teamliquid had a nice idea about coaching people to play starcraft better, and my idea was to play a shitload of team games with them. When you play team games, and both of you pick the same race, you know exactly where you're at vs where your teammate is at. When he scouts and makes observations you have the exact same information and could draw the same conclusions, when you have the same build you know exactly how well or not well you're doing the build, and you know what could be done better. Just an idea I had, I think it's a pretty good one.

And now I will focus on 1v1 again and try to get myself into Platinum. Not entirely sure how to get there yet, since I'm still quite bad, but I've been top8 Gold for a while now and I have just started beating a few Platinum league players without many problems, so I hope it's just a matter of a few more games (probably like 25 at least).
